Reports, Specifications

Xecon Engineers have over 30 years of experience in the Aerospace and Electronic business areas. In addition to the basic engineering design/development process we have considerable experience in each of the following engineering support areas.

   Studies

Most large scale projects generally do not begin at the design-build stage.  They begin as studies, the function of which is to accurately nail-down system requirements, functions, equations and detailed specifications.  Additionally, the study phase often involves the simulation of various portions of the system operation to prove the design approach.  These simulations are generally software based, but often they additionally involve the design, development, and testing of critical new components and circuits. Xecon Engineers have participated in numerous studies of this nature while working under consulting contracts to large Aerospace System Engineering firms.

Proposals

Proposals are possibly the most intense and accelerated of all activities in the Aerospace Electronics business areas.  After the receipt of a Request for Proposal (RFP) from a government agency or major contractor, the proposer usually has only a very limited time period in which to respond.  To win the contract one must come up with a technically superior and cost effective approach.  During the proposal period the baseline must be established, priced and fully described to the customer.  Because of the highly competitive nature of these efforts it is essential to staff the proposal team with senior engineering specialists who can accurately and quickly perform such tasks.  Additionally, since proposals are often page limited, the staff of the proposal team must have a superior command of the scientific, engineering and English languages in order to produce a concise and technically superior document.  Senior engineers at Xecon have frequently assisted our principal aerospace contractors (TRW DSSG & Hughes SCG) in support of several very large and winning spacecraft proposals.

Design Critiques

One of the most critical of tasks performed at various phase of every project is the design review process.  Often companies hire out-sourced consultants to assist in these reviews. An in-depth or even cursory design critique performed by an engineering specialist can often save the project significant dollars and time. Xecon specializes in performing such important design critique tasks sometimes on a very short notice.

Reports

The organization, production and writing of technical reports is a key part of virtually every engineering development project..  All study contracts, most development projects, and virtually every design critique is followed by a detailed report that presents the findings and reccomendations of the engineering effort.  To produce a good report it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the customers requirements, the systems organization and detailed operation. We at Xecon pride ourselves in our organization and writing skills employed in producing such technical documents.

Specifications

The generation of detailed and complete performance specifications represents a key starting point for any project, large or small.  This is the place where communications between engineering disciplines, contractors and sub-contractors, or even groups within a single organization eventually coalesce. At the beginning of a major program the specification usually starts out as a top level  document. It is then fleshed out and expanded by each engineering group so as to provide the details required by others to complet their tasks.  Correct and complete specifications of the interfaces between boxes and/or sub-systems is especially critical to ensure that the whole will correctly come together at final systems integration. In summary then, this document provides the necessary detail so that all members of the project team can be assured that they are working towards the same end goal. A poorly written
specification is generally a prescription for a projects failure.
